Am currently walking around D’ni Aegura (not the public one; I can never remember if they have different names) and taking pictures, because it’s been WAY too long.
Was noticing just how silent it was. So much so that I thought maybe the sound was broken, but then I walked up to the wall behind the YOU ARE HERE sign (this one:
) and realized that I could hear… things.
It sounded like the noisy chatter of a disruptive meeting. Then: the sound of someone banging, as if using a gavel, as if to silence the chatter. I’m still listening to it as I type this, and it’s just about one of the most wonderful/creepy experiences I’ve had with this game in a while.
It’s like I’m listening to the ghosts of the D’ni, and I’m wondering what they’re arguing about.
